Internet connection is essential and should be placed among Human basic needs (seriously) 😀 . There are so many things that are almost impossible to resolve without internet connections.
Note that when issues like your Wifi is connected but no internet access arises, there are many reasons as to why it happens. Although there isn’t a pinpoint answer to know why this happens, there are steps taken which you can do in order to try and fix the problem.
How To Fix WiFi Connected But No Internet Access.
Take note that before you use any of the guide(s)/tips to resolve/fix your internet connection issues, make sure that your internet service provider (ISP) is connected and the network issue is not from their side. You can do this by trying to use the same ISP on another device (Smartphone, PC, Modem, Router).
Why this is important is that you don’t need to fix something that is not broken, and in the means of trying to fix it, you’ll actually break it. Sometimes, issues like these are caused by network downtime. You might get a message about this sometimes and sometimes you might not, leaving you wondering what happened to your Modem, WiFi or Router.
1. Check Your Router.
I think the first place to check is your Router, it is safe to assume that if you are able to connect to the internet but there is no network access, your WiFi router should be checked.
Router most times are the nearest places where the issue is rising from. To verify if it is indeed a problem with your WiFi router, do follow the below guide to check if it’s the problem.
The first step is to look for another device with WiFi capabilities like a computer, tablet or smartphone and connect to the same WiFi router as before. Now, if the router is capable to connect to the WiFi network but still not able to connect to the internet, then you can say for sure that the problem is most likely from your router.
However, if the router connects and there is actually internet access (that is, you can browse the internet), then the problem is evidently from the device you connected with which we will show you how to fix it).
The next solution to this issue is to restart your devices, this includes your router, and PC, laptop, Android or any other device you are trying to connect with. When you restart your device, it automatically refreshes the IP address of the WiFi router and also clears any cache it might have stored, giving it a fresh new internet connection.
After you have completedly refreshed your devices, try connecting the device to your WiFi network and check if it will work. If this works, congratulation. But if not, then you can try the 2nd step outlined below.
Check Your Device.
If you have tried to connect your device to the internet via your WiFi router with another device and it can surf the internet, you should know that the issue is obviously from the device you initially tried to connect with.
Why we asked you to go through this process is because there is a need to verified if your WiFi router is up and running and if your wifi/router has access to the internet.
You should know that there are a lot of ways you can easily fix/solve this issue, and this depends on the device with the issue. If its a PC, if you connect your PC via router and it says connected but no internet access, here are the possible solutions.
For PC Users.
- The first step is to open the Wifi/internet access and forget it. Then try to connect to the WiFi network again.
- Clear cache of all WiFi connection and reconnect it again.
- You should also try updating the wireless network adapter automatically or manually.
For Smartphone Users.
- The first step is to go to settings, Wifi and remove the wifi. Then try to reconnect to the WiFi network again.
- Some mobile phones Wifi connection actually works with date and time. This means that if your date/time is not correct, it won’t connect. Make sure your date and time are set to “Use network-provided time”. Then reconnect.
- You can also try to “Reset Network Settings” and reconnect.
- Make sure access to the internet isn’t restricted to some apps.
Another method which most people overlook but is vital, is changing the Wireless Network Mode. To do this, try changing the wireless network mode on your router through the router website dashboard under wireless mode.
Depending on the settings already on the router, you can try changing it from 802.11 b/g/n to 802.11 b or 802.11 g, The different won’t be much, as the latest WiFi standard (WiFi 802.11 b/g/b) is backward compatible and should work regardless but just to be sure, switch to them all one by one and see if this is where the fault is.
